Recently, I tried to check my Zep.us account and want to see what’s different with the last time I used it. But when I tried to open the Zep.us Editor from my dashboard, an Error 404 happened. It showed DNS_HOSTNAME_RESOLVED_PRIVATE, as a non-programmer, I don’t know what it means! I tried to open the documentation, searching on Google, asking ChatGPT, and it still didn’t show me any straight way to fix it. But later, I found how to fix it and it’s quite easy and simple. So if you are getting this error as well, don’t worry, I’ll show you how to fix it.

As you see above, that’s the error that I got at that moment. It looks scary but actually it’s harmless. ChatGPT actually gave me a clue to check the URL, is it the correct URL or not. At first, it looks legit and nothing wrong with it. If you are using Zep in English, when you open the editor, the link will be something like this : https://zep.us/en/edit/[SpaceID]/[RoomID]. If not, I believe this error wouldn’t happened to you. But if you tweak a little bit to the URL, and change it to be like this : https://zep.us/edit/[SpaceID]/[RoomID], it will show a different result! What’s different? I tried to remove the /en from the URL.

So basically that /en URL doesn’t exist for editor. It’s just a localized path for the homepage. But maybe the administrator forgot to switch the localized path to the real path for the editor. That’s why it shows an error. Simple and hilarious right? I believe that there are many people that getting this error, and don’t know how to fix it. Keep in mind that this error ONLY happened when you try to open the editor from your Zep Dashboard and when you try to make a new space from scratch. But if you open the Editor when you are on the space, this error will not happening. I don’t know whether the administrator will fix this later in the future, but I hope so, and happy to help you if you find this!
